This course is designed for health and social care staff who look after the elderly in various care settings who are a particularly vulnerable group, often suffering with age associated illnesses and poor mobility. All of which vastly increase their risk of developing pressure ulcers.
Pressure ulcers are not just a modern day problem and historically were referred to as bed sores and pressure sores.
There are more than half a million new pressure ulcers in the UK in any one year. This is a massive level of harm for our service users and one that is largely avoidable. As health and social care providers we have a duty of care to prevent and reduce harm to others.
