Manual Handling Training Courses

Manual handling is required across a number of different industries. Whether it is the movement of objects or of people, if done incorrectly, it presents a massive issue and is responsible for over a third of all work-related injuries.

What do our Manual Handling courses cover?

We offer two Level 2 courses, a general Manual Handling course and a more specific Moving People Safely award.

Level 2 Award in Moving People Safely

This qualification will provide learners with the skills, knowledge and understanding required for those working in areas/sectors where the assistance and movement of people is part of their role. The objective of the qualification is to prepare learners for employment or to support a role in the workplace.

The qualification is suitable for those starting work, returning to work or who need specific training in the movement of people safely, as well as being a suitable qualification for safety refresher training. This qualification covers the safe moving and handling principles for both objects/load and the assistance of moving people.

Assessment Method: 2 Multiple-choice examinations and 2 practical assessments

Guided Learning Hours (GLH): 20

Total Qualification Time (TQT): 40

Entry requirements

There are no prerequisites for this qualification, however it is recommended that learners have a minimum of Level 1 in literacy or numeracy or equivalent.

This qualification is approved for delivery to learners aged 16+.

To complete the accredited Level 2 Award in Moving People Safely (RQF) learners must complete the following mandatory units: ""Manual handling safety at work"" and ""Moving people safely""

Topics covered on the Manual handling safety at work are:

  • Understand the reasons for safe manual handling
  • Understand how manual handling risk assessments contribute to improving health and safety
  • Understand the principles, types of equipment and testing requirements associated with manual handling safety
  • Be able to apply safe manual handling principles
  • Practical Assessments for Unit 1

Topics covered on the Moving people safely are:

  • Understand the personal safety health and dignity issues relating to the movement of a person by others
  • Understand how a personal handling plan and risk assessment reduce the risk of injury to everyone involved in moving a person
  • Understand the principles, types of equipment and testing requirements associated with moving people safely
  • Be able to apply safe principles when moving a person
  • Practical Assessments for Unit 2

Level 2 Award in Safe Moving and Handling

The Level 2 Award in Safe Moving and Handling is an RQF-accredited course which is suitable for those new to work, or as refresher training. This training aims to give learners the knowledge and techniques necessary to avoid strains, sprains and other injuries that are common when handling objects.

This qualification will introduce learners to moving and handling activities required for those starting work, returning to work or who need specific training in manual handling, as well as being a suitable qualification for refresher training. The objective of the qualification is to prepare learners for employment or to support a role in the workplace.

Learners gaining this qualification will understand that moving and handling must be carried out correctly and will recognise its importance in ensuring a safer working environment.

Typically, courses are offered Monday to Friday 9.00 - 16.30, but we understand these times aren't manageable for everyone, so often arrange evening and weekend training to accommodate this. Furthermore, we will tailor courses to include information specific to your workplace, so all training received is extremely applicable.
