Our Dementia Awareness course is ideal for both new and experienced Health and Social Care workers that require a deeper understanding of dementia and the way it presents differently in different individuals.

It’s estimated that 850,000 people in the UK are living with dementia, making the condition incredibly prevalent, especially in a health and social care setting.

Dementia refers to a set of symptoms including problems thinking, loss of memory, and difficulty with language among others. It can also bring about changes in an individual’s mood or behaviour. This range of symptoms is obviously distressing for the sufferer and present real challenges for carers. Dementia awareness training seeks to equip care staff with the knowledge and tools necessary to effectively and empathetically handle individuals with dementia.

What is covered during dementia awareness training?

Our dementia awareness course is usually delivered over one day, though it can be reduced to a half day or extended depending upon the requirement of the staff being trained.

Topics covered during dementia awareness training include:

  • The role of the carer
  • Different stages of dementia
  • A person-centred approach
  • How to apply empathy and understand feelings for those with a dementia

  • Dealing with relatives and friends

During the course, all delegates will be issued with informational handouts. The course is made up of group work, case studies, theory and personal reflections to enhance learners' understanding of dementia.

On completing the course, participants will receive an awareness certificate.

Our dementia training is also adaptable so, it can be tailored to your specific organisation. You also have a choice of location as training can be delivered at our fully-equipped Carlisle training centre or at your workplace.
